Sennheiser & 1MORE: A Brief
Sennheiser has been a well-known name in the audio circuit for their high-fidelity consumer audio products and accessories. The company launched the Momentum In-Ear headphones at IFA 2014 for the enthusiasts. These headphones are compatible with Android and iOS devices (using an adapter). On the other hand, the 1MORE Triple Driver headphones are relatively a new entry. 1MORE, a China-based company best known for working on the Xiaomi’s Piston 3.0 headphones, manufactures these triple driver headphones.
1. Design
At first glance, both the headphones almost look a tad similar, thanks to their dual-tone looks. Look closer, and you’ll slowly see the differences come to light. In case of the 1MORE Triple Drivers, the cable from the 3.5mm jack to the Y-connector is covered in fabric, while the rest is rubber. This fabric sheathing prevents the wires from getting tangled, as well as protect the inner cords from the elements of nature. The Sennheiser Momentum headphones don’t feature any fabric covering. However, the wire has been given an oval shape to keep it tangle free. When it comes to the fit and the angle of the earbud, thankfully both the headphones have angled earbuds which make it easy to stick to the ears. The Sennheiser headphones are said to hold on to the ears even when you’re out running or jogging. Though the 1MORE Triple Drivers can be used to work out as well, you have to bear in mind that these aren’t gym headphones in the strictest sense. That means, they are not sweatproof and have no Ingress Protection certification. Both the headphones come with a three-button in-line remote. But when it comes to the build quality, it’s the Sennheiser headphones which take the first prize. On the other hand, though the Sennheiser Momentum headphones have enjoyed great reviews, the wires tend to break down in the long run.
2. Sound Quality
Now comes the most important part of any audio product — Sound Quality. For the price, both the headphones produce stellar sound. The three-driver technology in the 1MORE’s Triple Drivers delivers balanced audio with every layer being significantly audible and not getting muddled up. Also, though they don’t feature active noise cancellation, these earbuds do their best to seal out ambient sounds to provide passive noise isolation even in a crowded place. As we mentioned above, the Sennheiser’s Momentum In-Ear produce stellar sound for the price. However, the bass and treble can turn out to be a bit harsh, as noted by CNET’s David Carnoy.
3. Accessories
When it comes to the accessories, the Sennheiser’s Momentum In-Ear comes neatly bundled in a smooth fabric casing. It’s a zip case where you can put them back when you are not using them. Moreover, the company bundles four different sizes of ear tips. Similarly, the 1MORE Triple drivers also come with a traveling case with a magnetized latch, along with six sets of silicone ear tips, and three sets of foam ear tips. Which One to Buy?
Though both the headphones look great on paper, the real world experience can be different. Users on Sennheiser’s official site have often complained of the ear adapters being loose and falling off at the slightest pretext. If they fall off and you don’t realize that immediately, there’s a good chance of some damage happening to them. The bottom line is that at $100, they will probably last you two years at least if you take utmost care of them.
